It was a relatively late day considering the earliness that is to be the rest of the trip. We met downstairs around 7, 730 to eat breakfast and chit chat before we loaded up the vehicles to continue on our last leg. After a few hours, we reached Wichita Falls and went to lunch at whataburger. After an intereesting and greasy lunch, we loaded back up in the van and after a quick fill up, we got back on the road.
The trip was relatively quick. After two hours or so, we made it to our home away from home, The Sleep Inn. (You know, I never got the pun until I wrote it just now, hahaha) its amazing how much a difference a few more people can make. We filled the lobby, so much so that we had to go up stairs. we had just enough time to unpack before it was time to load up the van and head off to our first performance...Zacky Wacky's church :) After a scary drive down the Texan highways (I was seriously gripping my seat and praying) we made it to Mayfield Baptist church...only to be greeted with disappointment when Zach wasn't there. After a few minutes of waiting and debating who was going to get to hug him first ("really, whoever reaches him first") Zach finally emerged from the darkness and surprisingly didn't run when w all chased after him. (I won, FYI :)).We entered his beautiful church, and the mimes began to practice as the roadies waited to set up. We had plenty of time before the performance. The mimes went to worship while some of the roadies went to see Zach's office and to meet some of his youth. When we resumed practice, the gang got a little silly and we were all laughing so hard, we couldn't take the practice seriously anymore. The roadies were dying with laughter. Ben kept posing and crawling away and Zach finally ends the song with "I leave for one year and all this happens?" it was good fun I wasnt quite sure what to expect once we started it was the random mix of people everywhere from the young to very old. We opened with our first song, and immediately I could see peoples interest arise. some gave nods of affirmation, some a smile, some cried. It was ineresting to see what song affected who.
During "hold my heart" some people tuned out, while some wept. Then it was flip-flopped the next song and those who weren't touched before suddenly had the song speak to them. The people made it personal. Suddenly, we had a mic failure where the mic cut out almost 90% of the song. I panicked but (oh yeah) God was still in control. Even though most of our focus was on the technical difficulties, there was a small lady in front, wiping her eyes. I was reminded once more why we came...even if we can reach only one. The mimes continued, getting loud applause after some songs, and silent conviction. The After not guilty, many people shouted Amen. Many people stood at the end.
Afterward, as the roadies packed up the van, one older lady thanked us for our ministry and was genuinely joyful. Then, while looking for stuff, Julia and I ran into a group of people praying in the hall over the mimes. That was certainly refreshing. After reconviening in Zach's office, we headed out to canes. Zach hyped up the place but really I still like Churches' more ;) We talked about how much the kids grew from even just the practices. Once everyone finished eating, we headed to the cars for a Walmart run. We had a good laugh when Tanner bought shaving cream simply because it had an ultimate fighter on it, while Lynette teased David for his Lucky Charms fancy. We headed home and played "Black Cops" on the way with Caroline. Overall, a good night.
Sounds like a great day. We are praying for y'all! Canes, as in great chicken strips, great sauce, great sweet tea? what's not to like?
