Day 1 - We're off to see the Texas!

An early morning and a perfect day to drive. We all loaded up and got into our vans. This year, we were taking a lot more kids; it going to be really fun. This year, we also had a rental van because the other van broke down during choir tour. Success! Patty's platoon had a uber nice one. The first stretch will take us to Raton, New Mexico and then we would take a short 2 hour break for lunch. On the way through town, we played a little "who's in front?" Some follow the leader was good to pass the time. We were just at the new mexico border when CJ looked down the Raton Pass to see a bear running along the train tracks. The sweet (and probably voratious) bear was just frolcking along without a care in the world. In Raton, we got lunch, filled up and continued on our way. A fun little detour happened almost to Amarillo when the highway suddenly closed(which I didn't know was possible) and all traffic had to exit. Oddly enough it was just for about a quarter of a mile so...okay....
We eventually got split it in the confusion and lost Bill's van, and a few miles later, Patti's van lost the caravan (and the navagator lost the road) but we all got to the destination safely.
Ah, finally, we set foot in Texas, the lovely, 96 degree weather. (Hot, yes, but my skin totally dug the 45% humidity) we got to our first home away from home, the hotel of Hepburn...or sleep inn. (Seriously, I think she stayed in this hotel because there are pictures of her EVERYWHERE) we reconvened in the breakfast room to talk about our trip, made jokes and hung out before we went to dinner. As we chilled, we talked about how we knew we were saved. It was a great way to bond. for dinner we went to rudys, a great little barbeque place near our hotel and we talked over ribs, pulled pork and loaded spuds, we talked about the day and about how we thought the trip would be. When we arrived at "home" we relaxed, hit up the pool and exercised. Later that night, the girls piled into PatDani's room and watched the ORIGINAL mime video (from 2004 tour) and the home performace. It was such a great time to sit and chit-chat and be girls!
